What's new for 2022

GMC adds premium features to the 2022 Sierra 1500 to make it the most luxurious, capable, and advanced version of the light-duty Sierra thus far.

Topping the lineup this year is the first-ever Sierra Denali Ultimate. This version combines the luxury features found on the Denali trim and adds advanced technology including a 15-inch color Head-Up Display and 16-way power-adjustable, massaging front seats.

Another update for 2022 is the all-new Sierra AT4X. This is a premium truck is tuned to deliver impressive off-road capabilities. It comes standard with features like front and rear locking differentials, a large steel transfer case, a 6.2-liter V8 engine, two-speed transfer case, and 18-inch wheels with mud-terrain tires.

Sierra 1500 Engine Options

The engine options for 2022 remain the same except for the standard engine. The previous 4.3-liter V6 that was standard is no longer an option on the Sierra 1500. Now standard is the 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 310 horsepower and an improved 420 lb-ft of torque.

The other engines carry over: a 5.3-liter V8 with 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque, a 6.2-liter V8 rated at 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque, and a 3.0-liter turbo-diesel with an output of 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. When properly equipped, the diesel engine now has a maximum towing capacity of up to 13,200 pounds.

Interior Spotlight

GMC has upgraded the Sierra's interior with a new 13.4-inch touch screen. This large display comes standard on all but the base trim level. Along with the updated screen, many of the controls on the center stack are slightly angled toward the driver for easier reach.

The steering wheel-mounted column-mounted shifter from previous years has been replaced with a shifter on the center console. These and other upgrades give the Sierra a more impressive cabin look and feel with a modern touch.

A Functional Bed

Like previous model years, the 2022 Sierra 1500 comes with more cargo bed volume than the competition. All models come standard with between 62.9-89.1 cubic feet of cargo volume along with a high-strength steel bed floor. For even more bed versatility, you can choose the available MultiPro™ Tailgate with six distinct functions that make loading, unloading, and accessing the cargo box easier than ever.

The Latest Technology

One of the most impressive updates for 2022 is the availability of Super Cruise technology. This allows for hands-free driving on over 200,000 miles of highway across the United States and Canada. You can even use this technology while towing.

The infotainment system incudes connectivity through Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™. The larger 13.4-inch screen comes with Google built-in. This gives you easy access to Google Maps, Google Play, Google Assistant, and some of your other favorite apps.
